All Access Fridays presents:

The History of Halloween by Wikipedia (because I’m a lazy ‘computer generation’ kid who’s far too reliable on Wikipedia and it’s deliciously quick analysis of everything EVER that I’ve almost forgotten what books smell like. Actually….maybe someone can tell me…do kids still have to reference books in their social studies reports or can they just go online now?..anywhoo):

Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain: a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes regarded as the “Celtic New Year”. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundary between the alive and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.

So there you go…from ‘Celtic New Year’ to ‘Sexy Cat outfits’.

*Sidebar – when did all the girl costumes decide to turn slutty? Like, don’t get me wrong…I’m not one to object at scantily clad women, but how come all the female costumes are ‘Sexy Cats’ or ‘Sexy Witches’ or ‘Sexy ghosts’. What happened to Butt Ugly Berthas and Dog Faced Gremlins for the ladies?

Anyways…while my cohorts and I hit this blog up periodically today with event updates…I’ll let you get prepared with nothing short of some gawtdamn classics.

Fellas – be nice tonight
Ladies – be ugly tonight
Everyone eat EVERYTHING you’re given.

Whodini – Freaks Come Out At Night

Dana Dane – Nightmares

The time period of 88-94 is often referred to as the ‘Golden Era’ of Hip Hop. That is when some of the arguably best music was put out for the genre. Most of the style and swag that a lot of the new schoolers rock now is a direct by product of that 80’s consumerism and gaudiness. This was the era when cash ruled, thick gold chains and 4 finger rings were the go to items for any rapper. Cell phones were the size of house bricks. Adidas shell tops or puma clydes were standard footwear, of course with fat laces. Cazals, kangols and Cross Colors eventually led way to Timberland boots and hoodies. The east coast definitely had things on lock.

Now I could go on and on about how much I love this era of music, how all I want to listen to and DJ is music from this era, how music today sucks compared to artists back then, etc, etc… But that would just have me sounding like an old man.

Fans of hip hop are often referred to as heads. Older fans are, older heads. ‘No Country for Old Men’ was an oscar winning hit. Hence the theme for our Thursday posts is…No country for old heads. Check in every Thursday for some old school, 80’s-90’s laced flavor.

To start it off we’re gonna go waaaay back. Here’s a clip of Grandmaster Flash rocking in his kitchen with Fab 5 Freddy from the movie ‘Wildstyle’

And for your ipod: ‘The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the wheels of steel’
Flash runs through a bunch of records. Genre mashing, before Serato was even a thought.

The heavy hitters of the mighty Juice Crew. Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap and DJ Polo, Masta Ace and Craig G on one of the greatest posse cuts of all time, ‘Symphony’

And the clown prince of rap aka the Human Beatbox, Biz Markie. ‘Make the music with your mouth biz’

‘that category, period, end of story’

btw. 9 days til the party. Get your name in on that list.

Those who live in Taipei know the mid-week madness that is Ladies Night. Free drinks for ladies offered at the 3 big clubs in the city. Luxy being the most popular with the younger crowd. Room 18 catering to the more mature crowd and Plush catching the in between. Usually it can be a good way to start your weekend early or an even better way to ruin a Thursday, either way. In honor of a great way to spend a wednesday night….

Kool and the Gang – Ladies Night

For the ladies who like their men a little thuggish ruggish, and the song that inspired the name of this post. Lord Finesse – Strictly for the ladies
Crank the volume, this one is recorded a little low.

The lady who inspires many a lady (and many men too)
Beyonce – Single Ladies(Put a ring on it)

As a gift here’s the Beyonce song for you to rock in your ipod

And after you’ve picked your husband for the night…let’im know…

Erykah Badu – Honey

…then drink your Supau, eat your Dan Bing, scrub 94 cigarettes off your skin, crawl into bed, pump this up and let Vikter take over…

Vikter Duplaix – Make a Baby

One more add on about the party info, it 100 % free but you have to send an email to and write the first and last names of the people you are coming with. There will be a door person and if your (or your friend’s) name is not on the list, then you will be unable to get in. Also, it’s highly recommended to come early because once it fills up, that same door person will be letting people in by the one in one out policy. This means if you are inside and go out, then you have to wait in a line to get back in.

I mean you wouldn’t want this guy to be mad, would you?

So here we have yet another Blog to add to the huge blog-o-sphere out there.

This one specifically caters to a new event that we will be holding once a month in and around Taipei City. As you can see from the title of the blog, the parties are about high heels and high tops. Its as simple as it sounds, ladies rock high heels, fellas rock a pair of high tops. Come out, hear some good tunes, party, have a good time and then come check the blog for pics.

The first one kicks off on November 8th at Copa with musical duties being taken care of by Marcus Aurelius, CAP and The Sofa Kings.

If you were at Copa for the ‘Secret Handshake’ then you know what to expect. However, this time there will be bottled beer, plastic cups and some more staff behind the bar. And did we mention that ITS FREE!!!

Musically we have a rotating roster of 5 DJ’s. Taipei’s finest Marcus Aurelius(3XChamp), CAP of Stereo:types(Prince of Darkness), The Sofa Kings(the NKOTB of Taipei), Digit(Digit Music Group) and the dirty south’s turntable don, Dan 2Hands(RapNerds). We’ll be switching the line up every month, so be prepared to enjoy yo’ self!

We’ll also have some special treats for those who come out in high heels and high tops and of course come check the blog for updates on upcoming parties and pics.

So here’s what you can expect from us weekly:

Manic Mondays – Random posts from the internetland
New release Tuesdays – much like in the record stores, new music
Strictly for the ladies Wednesdays – posts with our female readers in mind. We’re sensitive internet thugs.
No Country for Old Heads Thursdays – We’ll hit you with something interesting from the old school for you new schoolers
All Access Fridays – music videos and info about where to party for the weekend, if its not our party.
Shuffle Saturdays – whatever the hell we feel like posting
Heaven or Hell Sundays – possibly a day of rest or mayhem…

We hope you enjoy it. Check in hourly, daily or weekly and feel free to leave comments and tell a friend.
