HHHT Squad, what it do.
Just wanted to share a little ditty with y’all. I came across this on my internet trollings. First off Complex mag is pretty dope. You should check it out if you get a chance. They rock the double cover every issue and its a pretty dope style guide/magazine. This month they got Kid Cudi and Keri Hilson (mad shiny).
Like I said, mad shiny.
But the gold medal for best time waster on the the Complex site goes to their Soundboard. This shit is hours of fun. For real.
Click the heads.
Tell me that wasn’t hype.
My squad > your squad
Got damn its been a minute. Let me apologize as I’ve been caught up in the hustle and bustle of getting ready for school. Im currently off the island of Taiwan, living on another island (Vancouver Island). This city(Victoria, BC) is looking ripe for some high heeled and high topped action. More on that much, much later, let me get through my first weeks of school first before I start my brick by brick dismantling of this shieeeeeeet.
Anyways, let me preface this by letting you know Bobby Bonestorm is the truth! He actually put me on to Major Lazer (Switch & Diplo) a couple months ago and I was like ‘yeah dude, I’ll check them out’. I slept. Like a fool. And now here I am jumping on the bandwagon after hearing their Essential Mix for BBC which was filled with 90’s dancehall gems, lazer sound effects and some of the rugged dancehall styleee that I haven’t heard in a few years, backed with some floor stomping drums and a bit of an electro edge.
Download the Essential Mix here
Mad Decent is locking down embedding this bad bwoy so your gonna have to click the pic for the 80s inspired animation and action figures that make up the video for their track ‘Hold the Line’ featuring Mr. Lexx and Santigold. Its Awesome. For real Awesome, just look at that artwork. Click that shit.
Bobby, my apologies.
HHHT > you
First off, apologies from the crew for being away this past week. The CAPtain‘s been marinating in some birthday love, M.A. continues his quest to Waakao the world and I’ve been sewing up some of the final details for the PPF House ‘Slow Claps’ Tour which will see us hit 20 cities nationwide this summer (So, all my Canadian homies, keep your eyes peeled cause we’ll be in your neck of the woods very soon).
Secondly, in regards to the blog title…cot damn!! if there weren’t a crazy amount of treats offered up on the blog circuit this week. I won’t be able to get to’em all today, but I’ll do my best to give you the highlights.
SA-RA Creative Partners
I’m a large fan of these guys.
Even though their debut effort sounded less like an album and more like a compilation thrown together a week before deadline, these L.A. maestros somehow managed to flex their musical muscles and avoid being overshadowed beneath a ridiculous cast of guest spots that included: Dilla, Kurupt, Q-Tip, Kweli and Pharoahe Monch…just to name a few..and show people that, in the illustrious words of Robert Diggs, Sa-Ra ‘ain’t nuttin’ to F*!# wit‘.
Now prepping to drop their Sophomore set Nuclear Evolution: The Age of Love, I give you some sneak peek material that I can only hope dwarfs their previous effort.
Even though Hip-Hop has designated a Golden Age period for the sake of its cultural timeline, I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that for each serious listener and lover of music, we all go through our own renditions of a Golden Age.
Black Star was an integral part of mine.
Now I can’t really explain why these 2 very afrocentric lyricists are so beloved by Asian kids everywhere, or why Okayplayer shows seem to always be 50% my kin, but they are. I’d like to think that my reasons behind my fandom are unique, but chances are they aren’t. And well…as I try to find ways to separate myself from the pack, the bottom line is, when these 2 get together, it’s nuts. Whether you’re referencing: Know That (Black on Both Sides), Joy (Quality), Supreme Supreme (Right About Now), Little Brother (Hurricane OST) or the whole Self-Titled Black Star album, these guys have that intangible ish. And well, they’re back again for Mos’ upcoming effort, Ecstatic and I’m happy bout it.
I generally write enough about Dilla on this blog. No more writing.
Watch and DL.
It’s Friday Folk…scrap it up.
Be well World
Generally I don’t post a lot of videos up because a) Nothing really caught my eye or b) The CAPtain got it. But for some reason, the past few days there’ve been a lot of new videos dropping with dope tracks and I figured, let’s break’em all out in one special ting ting.
Wherever you are…whether at home, at work or on vacation…here’s some visual content to ease the passing of time.
Truck North – Never Ending Flip
I posted this track earlier this week, and whaddya know, Video! Allow him to re-introduce himself….
Jake One – Home Feat. Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish
From Jake One’s ‘White Van Music’. Easily one of my favorite songs off the record featuring 4 Seattle cats that you probably’ve never heard of. This is posse cut goodness.
Prodigy – Mac 10 Handle
I’ve never really been a Mobb Deep fan. Call me a skeptic, but I generally don’t believe homocidal tales from cats who stand 4 foot nothing and are constantly getting robbed and clowned. However, despite all that, they always seem to have a minimum of 1 song an album that makes you forget all that and just embodies the definition of ‘Gully’. Well CAPtain…some more ‘Gully’esque vibes for your soul.
Beastie Boys & The Roots – So Whatcha Want
Are they old? Yes. Is this visually exciting? Not so much. Does it sound dope? Yessir.
The Roots helping the Beastie Beastie Boys get live on the spot. Classic song by classic people.
It’s hot people. Get your sweat on.
Be well world.
‘They say they ride for the underground, die for the underground but still makin no moneeeeeeey…..stupid’. – Dave/Dove/Trugoy
Today I give you a post that counteracts the above statement by the great Plug Two. Cats who maintain the ‘underground’ label and have established or are slowly building their pensions with verbs, nouns, hooks and cadences.
These cats are dope. From Brooklyn and Cincinnati respectfully, these cats do fun rap without having to talk about ‘Bringin’ it back’. Making their first big splash on Foreign Exchange‘s incredible debut ‘Connected’, Von Pea, Donwill and Illyas have quietly worked their way into the circuit and share a similar lane with Little Brother (circa the Listening). However, like Little Brother minus 9th…they also have issues consistantly picking dope beats. This one however is a gooder.
Sure he’s had major label support, and sure he’s been on commercially successful singles, but dammit if Kurupt doesn’t embody ‘RAW’ through and through. A rapper’s rapper, he’s been doing this for roughly 16 years and has never wavered from his position to sell records. With an amazing knack for creative and unorthodox cadences, what he lacks in content he always makes up with in flow.
Some chilled the eff out Kurupt ish.
Zev Love X. Don’t think I really need to write too much about this guy. He does his thing and people follow. Unfortunately he occasionally abuses this (google: Doomposter) but that doesn’t stop the fact that he’s plenty entertaining.
Doom’s ode to Homosexuals. Need I say more?!
It’s Friday Folk. Make a baby.
I’ve been away.
Well actually…I still am.
And unfortunately, because of this, I haven’t been able to offer the crew the support they so readily deserve with their hectic schedules (see: Waakao, Soul Food Fridays @ PS Underground, Shuffle Wednesdays @ Copa and anything that has HHHT on it).
So, as of today, after a 2 month hiatus, I’m back like Demond Wilson and ready to get it in.
First up how bout Jigga doin Diddy (ayo/no homo/pause/whatever they’re sayin nowadays).
As you all know, Diddy has a thing for wanting to make hit records. And him being the intelligent business man that he is, knows that he can’t write a rap for shit. Soooo….why not just spend that business man money and get a business….maaan! A Jay-Z & Diddy tune that apparently is ghostwritten for Diddy, but the scratch vocals have Jay referencing Jay, so I’m confused. Anyway, check it…
Next up, Camp Lo.
I love’em. Absolutely.
I hate the word Swagger. I really do.
Sure there are a few dope tunes fashioned around this word, but as an overall, its been misappropriated and as a result…teabag. HOWEVER, if anyone completely and wholeheartedly embodies the word swagger, it’s the Geechie Gracious and Sonny Cheeba. No question.
And finally (for MPFrees), the official return of Reflection Eternal. (YAAAAAAY!!!) I know this vid was released last month but I just got my hands on the CDQ MPFree so for you, I give you a double sided goodie like Motown 45’s.
Quick question. Like Wax? Got an iPod touch? (this is ridiculous…hit up the video — sorry don’t know how to embed Vimeo yet. Cap? Marcus?)
Soul Food Friday’s tonight folk. Get’em Cappy.
Word up Taiwan.
Be well world.

Soul Food Tonight, for the unfamiliar, get familiar. A place to hear some good music, eat some good food and have a drink.
Its like your happy about one thing, but then another element is out of your control. Like its great to stay busy and be able to do and accomplish all the things that you want to do, but the flip side to that is that other things that used to get your time have to compete for your time now. Im gonna take a couple examples here.
Lets look at Lil Wayne. He’s the busiest man in hiphop. Broke record sales this year in a his first week. In a market where people are more prone to download than buy, he managed to move over a million units in one week, marking his place in history. The curse to that as he reveals in this new Rolling Stone interview is that he’s no longer interested by rap. In a sense he’s become bored by the very thing that he worked so hard to become. The gift and the curse. You can read more about it, by clicking the cover.
I came across this article while trolling around the web. It can definitely be looked at as another example of the gift and the curse. It’s an article about offensive album covers. Some of the covers are albums you know and love, some are offensive. Others not so much.Click on the picture to chcek out the article.
Mmmmmmm, boobies. Totally not offensive to me.
Like I said the crew has been busy. I definitely miss triple who would hold us down when we caught up. But imma try and stay on my grizzly and make sure y’all keep coming back for that new new and all that good good. Nah mean.
Its Spring break weekend, which means Spring Scream for all those heading to Kenting for some fun and the sun and 72 hours of straight beaches and partying. I was in Kenting last weekend and its always a good time down there. Gotta love it.
For those staying in the city this weekend, I can only offer you my little oasis of listening pleasure.
Every Friday from 8-1030, I play soul music at PS Underground. Its a cool little spot in the alleys behind Luxy. They serve some really good pasta, and its a nice chill space. Kinda what you want after a hectic week of sticky ball and lesson plans. Something to soothe your ears and put a smile on your face.
If your in the city come on down to check it out. Click the flyer for the facebook event page.
Location of PS Pasta is
I’ll have some music for y’all tomorrow. Promise.
In case you didnt know, im putting the whole city on alert. Its OFFICIALLY HUSTLE SEASON! I been talking to people and everyone is on some serious grind shit right now. I know people working on clothing, music, websites, flyers, parties, retail ventures, tours. If this keeps up and everyone stays on their grizzly it should be a good spring/summer season.
Here are some goods for your Friday reading pleasure.
Somebody at format mag did their mutha’f’n homework. If you got some time today, go through this post. Im cool with a lot of the pics, but i think there definitely should be some more Outkast in that list, and Ludacris(he’s made some hilarious videos)
Speaking of videos, im not a huge Kid Cudi fan, but I am a fan of eye Candy, and there’s some serious eye candy in this vid, i believe they’re called the Beautiful Warriors. KC aint even in the video, its not the Official video, but its so official.
Kid Cudi feat. Beautiful Warriors – Super Boo
