HHHThere you are!
Today’s post touches on the phenomena that Harlem rep and Dipset General, Cam’ron just went through over the past year called, ‘WHERETHEFUCKYOUBEEN-itis” It’s a phenomena that has plagued the music industry for almost as long as there’s been an industry and ever year, more and more incredible talent succumb to its fatal clutches.
Well, just recently a few artists have seemed to fight their way through ‘WHERETHEFUCKYOUBEEN-itis” and are here to tell their stories.
Teacher. Firefighter. Basketball coach. Convicted Felon?!
Ok, so if you’ve really had your ear to the pavement, you’d know that this Brand Nubian General hasn’t actually disappeared but he definitely hasn’t made it easy to find him either. Having released 3 albums in the past 4 years (my personal favorite being 2006’s Black October pictured above) despite being rung up on weapons charges, he’s stayed the course that he started back in ’96 and released his 6th solo album just this past May titled, Brand New Bein’. And sure, although he continues to release his music to very little fanfare, Sadat‘s voice remains fierce, his cadences abstract, and his lyrics poignant. Now coupled with another New York legend, I’m proud to bring you some of that new new.
Bone bone bon-booooone…bone BONE bone BONE!
From Flesh ‘n Bone being incarcerated to Bizzy Bone dealing with Schizophrenia to Wish Bone becoming a Realtor, this groundbreaking Cleveland quintet have seen their share of problems. And although they continued to push even as a trio (remember ‘Home’ where they sampled Phil Collins? I won’t hate but go listen for yourself) they never got back to that sound that we all came to love. Well, with Flesh’s release and Bizzy’s attempt to return to sobriety, Bone heads collectively let out a sigh of relief as the team has reformed and been grinding in the lab. And well, there’ve already been 2 or 3 songs that I passed on posting cause well, they just weren’t that good. This one I can definitely dig on.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:
Remember Nappy Roots?
Awnaw? Po Folks? Those were dope ass jams. And while their sophomore release Wooden Leather barely got a spin, and there next record, Humdinger, did a bit better due to some savvy internet marketing, they haven’t been able to recapture the glory they had on 2002‘s Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz. That being said, despite not always having the best production, I’ve always appreciated these cats for spitting some proper lyrics and this one is no exception.
Some new Nappy Roots for ya, whatcha think?
No people, I know Freeway hasn’t been missing so stop your hating. In fact, he’s been quite the opposite and been demolishing the blogs for the past year with what seems like a never ending barrage of tunes. However, I used to be a huge Freeway fan but somewhere down the line I just kinda got bored of it. Well, I finally found a new tune of his that made me do a Track 2 from Low End Theory and well, I thought that warranted a mention in today’s post. Featuring the Chef himself and production from Seattle heavyweight Jake One, I give you:
It’s Monday folk….soak it up.
Be well world.
With the 4th quarter upon us and several projects from tons of amazing people still awaiting release, HHHT gets into a few in particular that we’re eye-spyin’ for.
TIL THE CASKET DROPS
Oh Clipse, this one better be good.
I’ve said this before on this blog, but I’ll reiterate one more time. I’m a huge Clipse fan. Really and truly I am. Like, I’ve gone on record as saying that as far as Street lyricists are concerned, they’re the closest thing we’ve had to Wu-Tang in a long long time. HOWEVER, that last Re-Up gang record was not only unfocused in terms of production and direction, but lyrically they were barely punching their way out of that proverbial wet paper bag (see ‘Fast Life’ produced by Scott Storch). And to that end…I’m scared. Nonetheless, I’ve heard 3 cuts off the album thus far and have been relatively content. Perhaps because they’ve all been Neptunes beats and that’s, at the end of the day, what I think the Clipse should sound like. Also, Mr. ‘Bison in his studio’, the legendary Rick Rubin is overseeing this album so I can only hope that means any loose ends the Star Trak boys miss, Rick’s holdin down. Anyway, here’s a new cut featuring Pharrell and the former Dipset General, Cam’ron, whaddya think?
JACK & BROOK
Jack Davey & Brook D’Leau, better known as J*Davey have been a favorite group of mine ever since I saw them perform at this little spot in Toronto some years back.
A clash of about a half dozen genres in one, they were just starting to get their buzz in the scene when the Roots, who obviously felt they were of a particular quality decided to bring them on the Beginner’s Guide… tour. Unfortunately for them, when they reached Toronto, the type of music they did matched with the venue they were performing at and the audience that was in attendance made for a vinegar/oil type of situation as these 2 were completely drowned out with Boo’s for damn near the entirety of their set. However, unlike most acts that would’ve packed it up mid-way through the shit storm, they persevered through and finished the set graciously. Score 1 for J*Davey. Then, a smart move on their part, they booked a show the next night here in a much smaller club and they absolutely demolished. They then went on to feature on the Roots next record Game Theory (which is in IMO their best record to date), the late great J Dilla’s Dilla Loves Japan EP, and release 2 EP’s to critical acclaim. Now, after being picked up by Warner, their preparing to drop their first full length (apparently) soon. In the meantime, here’s some new ish.
I’m not gonna say ANYTHING about this. Just watch the video below and digest it yourself cause I’m still convulsing.
I’ll be posting webisodes from the recording sessions on a regular from now on in. GET FAMILIAR!
This is kinda old news but for those who don’t know…Allhiphop.com and Jumpoff.TV have been doing a series called ’48 Hours’ where they follow major artists on the first 2 days of releasing a brand new album. Thus far, the people they’ve picked have been interesting and the series has been relatively entertaining. For your viewing pleasure, I thought I’d start posting these up and give you a behind the scenes look at some serious players hard at work.
We start with a Kiss…
We tha ish folk. There’s no denyin it.
HHHT all day e’yday.
Be well world.
HHHTina’s, Tracy’s and Tania’s,
Because today is your day, and because I am the Casanova that I am, I give you something from the heart.
A new goodie from G.O.O.D.’s Sa-Ra Creative Partners, and no this song isn’t a tribute to the late, great Eazy E’s double time spitting quartet from Cleveland, but it is pretty thuggish ruggish.
The new record may just be hella ill. Check it.
Maybe not the most refined ladies man…okay, maybe not refined at all, but he sure shares some similar fashion tendencies.
This is just a fun one over a classic sample.
And finally, often confused for 1 woman, but they’re actually 3 dudes from Brooklyn and Cincinnati, the video to an MPfree I linked you with a couple weeks back.
Dope tune. Super dope.
Enjoy the night folk.
Get it in.
During my tenure as a Boy/Man, I’ve had the privilege (not always) of spending time with several different types of Ladies. You have your slim, thick, short, tall, feisty, diva, cool, reserved, crackhead, etc.
But I’ve also found that within each category, they break into similar sub-categories. So…being Ladies Night ‘n all, I figured I’d post some tunes for all the ladies in the club.
For that regular Club female who doesn’t like to over do it, but likes it bouncy…
T.I. – Get That Money click flick
For the Female who likes to get slammed but still manages to get home safely…

HHHT 7&8 in all immediacy. Scrub’em up cause it’s about to go down.
Be well world
After the buckets of views yesterday, I can only presume that Joe Russo is what y’all want.
So as promised….part deux.
And Dammit if it ain’t new Release Tuesday.
I got them yum yums for your EARea.
First up, Mr. Rhymes on his ol’ skool hip-hop ISH! A KRS sample?! Word up. Haven’t heard someone rock one of those in awhile (which I don’t completely understand cause his samples are FREE and he’s oh so quote worthy). If I didn’t know better, B.O.M.B.‘s on the waaaaay.
Busta Rhymes – Wack (click flick for dl)
“CAM’RON IS BACK!!”
Now generally hearing that statement, I’d be underwhelmed to say the least. I’m a fan of like 6 songs and a handful of guest verses in his 11 year existance and most of those songs occurred in the first half of his run. That being said, I like this new tune a LOT! Cam goes left on this one and does a ‘Working Class’ song?!? No Poppin Champagne for this Dipset General…no sir.
Cam’ron – I Hate My Job (click flick for dl)
And finally, as a special treat FREEBASS808. At first I wasn’t too sure who they were but they sounded dope and the emcee sounded a lot like the Geechie Gracious (he be sippin armaretto)….well turns out…it IS! A new solo project between Camp Lo’s Geechi Suede (a.k.a. Suede Heron) and producer Apple Juice Kid (a.k.a. Apple Crack)…the clip is short but promising (Cap I think you’ll likey).
FREEBASS808 – Morphing (click flick for dl)
*Bonus – Raekwon feat. Ghostface & Method Man – Wu Ohh (High Quality)* – the Untitled song from yesterday.
Sofakinglater is in 3 days people!
Next HHHT event to be announced in a matter of days…stay tuned.
