HHHTo the Greatest,
Every year about this time I usually write a long piece reminiscing on what your music has done for me and the world over. All the artists you’ve made better, all the verses that were slept on, all the beats that should’ve never worked but you still managed to turn into masterpieces and all the tracks that changed the entire face of music. I could write a damn book!
However, this year, after years of preaching and pushing, I’ve decided to take a break from the commentary and let your music and your peers do the talking.
Thank you Dilla, for everything. You’re beyond missed.

HHHTo the Left, to the Left,
As I previously posted on the East Coast and the excellent year they’ve been having, let us not forget about their tanned and funky counterparts over on the Left.
Now, although perhaps they haven’t had as successful a run this past little while, don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re not loaded with game changers.
Slaughterhouse representative. Dr. Dre approved. And one of the torchbearers for the New West. If you’ve never heard Crooked I spit, then you probably don’t listen to much rap.
Likened to a West Coast Pharoahe Monch, Crook’s versatile cadences and cutthroat wordplay made him an obvious candidate to join supergroup, Slaughterhouse. But even more importantly, he’s one of only a handful of west coast spitters that have managed to stay relevant even when the Hip-Hop spotlight has been buried deep in the south. Now, set to release a brand new mixtape as well as the launch of his new label, Dynasty Entertainment, Crook’s poised to keep his position and keep the West up.
Here’s a double dose for your listening pleasure:
93 ‘TIL INFINITY
When the Souls of Mischief recorded 93 ’til infinity, I doubt there was any way they could’ve anticipated that in fact this prophetic song would actually live up to it’s over ambitious claims.
Now, 16 years later, I still manage to hear this song damn near every hip-hop event I go to and can’t help but love it. And well, them, as well as the entire Hieroglyphics crew are still going strong and making music strictly for the heads. Sure their popularity has died off a bit and most kids nowadays think they’re, at best, a one-hit wonder, but at the end of the day, skills is skills and they’ve got skills like a muh’.
Prepping to release their first official group album since 2000’s Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution, the Souls have enlisted the help of hip-hop innovator, 1/7 of Stetsasonic, and the man honorably known as Plug Four, Prince Paul. If you don’t know either him or Hiero, I suggest you get familiar. Now.
Off the upcoming Montezuma’s Revenge:
And as an added bonus, a brand new ode to A Tribe Called Quest from the Hiero General, Del.
And finally, what would a post about the West be without an appearance by the Doggfather.
Off his upcoming 10th studio album, Malice n Wonderland:
SNOOP DOGG – I WANNA ROCK
West West Y’all.
Enjoy the Sun.
HHHTime is near,
If you’ve been following the updates at all, then chances are you’ve been following the webisodes from the amazing BlakRoc project that’s due out in a matter of weeks. And on a day where I have less than 15 minutes to get a new piece up, how bout I get you caught up on all the videos and we call it even. Deal? Word up.
#5 Feat. NIKKI WRAY & JIM JONES
#6 Feat. NOE
#7 Feat. Q-TIP! (Q-Tip can knock you out too?!?)
#8 Feat. BILLY DANZE (FFFIIIIIREEEE!)
And I guess this wouldn’t be a true HHHT post without at least one treat. A new unreleased track from a man who supposedly will also be featured on the BlakRoc album, there’ll never be another like him….
With the 4th quarter upon us and several projects from tons of amazing people still awaiting release, HHHT gets into a few in particular that we’re eye-spyin’ for.
TIL THE CASKET DROPS
Oh Clipse, this one better be good.
I’ve said this before on this blog, but I’ll reiterate one more time. I’m a huge Clipse fan. Really and truly I am. Like, I’ve gone on record as saying that as far as Street lyricists are concerned, they’re the closest thing we’ve had to Wu-Tang in a long long time. HOWEVER, that last Re-Up gang record was not only unfocused in terms of production and direction, but lyrically they were barely punching their way out of that proverbial wet paper bag (see ‘Fast Life’ produced by Scott Storch). And to that end…I’m scared. Nonetheless, I’ve heard 3 cuts off the album thus far and have been relatively content. Perhaps because they’ve all been Neptunes beats and that’s, at the end of the day, what I think the Clipse should sound like. Also, Mr. ‘Bison in his studio’, the legendary Rick Rubin is overseeing this album so I can only hope that means any loose ends the Star Trak boys miss, Rick’s holdin down. Anyway, here’s a new cut featuring Pharrell and the former Dipset General, Cam’ron, whaddya think?
JACK & BROOK
Jack Davey & Brook D’Leau, better known as J*Davey have been a favorite group of mine ever since I saw them perform at this little spot in Toronto some years back.
A clash of about a half dozen genres in one, they were just starting to get their buzz in the scene when the Roots, who obviously felt they were of a particular quality decided to bring them on the Beginner’s Guide… tour. Unfortunately for them, when they reached Toronto, the type of music they did matched with the venue they were performing at and the audience that was in attendance made for a vinegar/oil type of situation as these 2 were completely drowned out with Boo’s for damn near the entirety of their set. However, unlike most acts that would’ve packed it up mid-way through the shit storm, they persevered through and finished the set graciously. Score 1 for J*Davey. Then, a smart move on their part, they booked a show the next night here in a much smaller club and they absolutely demolished. They then went on to feature on the Roots next record Game Theory (which is in IMO their best record to date), the late great J Dilla’s Dilla Loves Japan EP, and release 2 EP’s to critical acclaim. Now, after being picked up by Warner, their preparing to drop their first full length (apparently) soon. In the meantime, here’s some new ish.
I’m not gonna say ANYTHING about this. Just watch the video below and digest it yourself cause I’m still convulsing.
I’ll be posting webisodes from the recording sessions on a regular from now on in. GET FAMILIAR!
This is kinda old news but for those who don’t know…Allhiphop.com and Jumpoff.TV have been doing a series called ’48 Hours’ where they follow major artists on the first 2 days of releasing a brand new album. Thus far, the people they’ve picked have been interesting and the series has been relatively entertaining. For your viewing pleasure, I thought I’d start posting these up and give you a behind the scenes look at some serious players hard at work.
We start with a Kiss…
We tha ish folk. There’s no denyin it.
HHHT all day e’yday.
Be well world.
Today is all about clapping. Whether it be AK’s or appendages is up to you, just make sure it’s out of joy.
LIFE IS BETTER
After finally releasing the super duper illness known as Kamaal the Abstract. The man Kamaal Fareed, better known as Q-Tip, has just released a new single (and arguably my favorite tune off his previous album this year the Renaissance) entitled Life is Better. Although on paper the content may seem a bit ‘been there, done that’ish, Q-Tip, accompanied by one of the most soothing vocal qualities of the past quarter-century, Norah Jones, somehow still manage to make it feel fresh. Or maybe that’s just my opinion.
Either way, this tune is bomb.
Following along the same content lines are 2 underground legends: Del the Funky Homosapien and Tame One (who are also Ice Cube’s and Redman’s cousins respectively) who are gearing up for their upcoming duo album, Parallel Uni-Verses . The song isn’t near as compelling as it could be, but Del is still a monster.
Del the Funky Homosapien & Tame One – Flashback
First you heard it. Now you get to see it.
The ‘Swagga Like Us‘ of 2009. I give you Drizzy Drake, Lil Weezy Wee, Kanyeezy and Em. Fresh off the More Than A Game Soundtrack, Forever.
For those paying close attention to the last verse, aside from Eminem sounding like he might be back to his old form, you may’ve also noticed 4 characters that’ve been frequenting the HHHT blog for the past little while standing behind him. Yes, that was Slaughterhouse and yes, rumor has it they’re slated to be the next artists on Shady Records. Now I have no idea whether or not this is actually going to go through, but with a machine like Shady/Aftermath behind these four extremely talented spitters, it may mark the beginning of a new era in the mainstream game. A ‘return to form’ so to speak. Anyway, here’s a brand new tune from former Aftermath signee, and the best Latino role model since Big Pun…
Toronto-based artists LEO37 + Sunclef have been busy boys. First separately touring Canada and the States as a part of the WPBE and Zaki Ibrahim‘s crew respectively, then uniting to conquer a 15-date Canadian tour with fellow PPF Housemates, MAGNOLIUS. All self-booked and self-produced, their inaugural run has been so great that, to show their appreciation for the love they’ve received, PPF House has decided to officially release their new single for FREE.

That’s the word people.
Get it poppin.
Who knows what the word means. Its a combo of Splendid, Terrific and Fabulous. Sounds like something you’d hear on ‘Sex and the City’, I almost regret writing it now. Shiiieeeeet. Anyways, a couple Tuesday treats for the HHHT massive.
Has Busta leaked his whole album yet??? Seems like a new track is on the net every week. Without further ado, Busta Rhymes featuring T.Pain – Hustler.Click pic for download.
My homey Q-tip joins forces with the Kanye for the remix of ‘We Fight/We Love’. Go buy/download Tip’s new album ‘The Renaissance’ if you haven’t yet. It’s a good listener. Truss it.Click pic to get it.
Q-Tip featuring Kanye West – We Fight We Love – remix
I’ve been going in on the movie trailers a little bit. The summer is gonna be crazy for action movies. You may have seen these, if not, checka check it out.
G.I. Joe – The Rise of Cobra (act like you know, the Baroness looks pretty smoking hot too.)
Transformers 2 – Revenge of the Fallen
Terminator Salvation. The first and second Terminator movies were awesome, third one, not so much. Im hoping they bring back the fear factor for this fourth one.
Enjoy your Tuesday.
Tomorrow we get buck.
And as promised…after a bout of Food poisoning, a residual migraine and an evening of cold sweats, I proudly present Part 1 of Joey ‘CRACK’ Russo’s: HHHT6!
As you can tell from this first set of photos, the evening was nutty. A big shout out and thanks to Light Lounge and everyone who came and showed their love for the HHHT Conglomerate. Even though the numbers are diminished, rest assured, the parties will continue to be demolished and daughters all over the island will be in jeopardy of finding Love in a Club.
And well….since it’s Ladies Night, how bout a couple o’ treats…
Y’know B.O.M.B.’s coming out soon cause Busta’s dropping tracks every week. Here’s another potential single for the man. This time he brought his boys T.I.P. and Akon wit’em.
Busta Rhymes Feat. T.I. & Akon – Number One (click flick)
And one from a potential star in the making…Amanda Diva. Although she briefly acted as Natalie Stewarts‘ replacement in Floetry, most of you probably first heard her on Q-Tip‘s latest single, Manwomanboogie. Well, I just snaked this new tune from her in case you were wonderin what her solo stuff sounded like.
Amanda Diva Feat. Johnny Polygon – Neon
I’m goin out singing….
My life for the past month has been completely and unrelentingly submerged in music. Blogging, writing, recording, release dates, tour dates, etc. And as much delight as this would generally bring me, with all the happenings in the world right now, I’m glad I’m surrounded by people who don’t do what I do and keep me in the loop.
Well, today…I’m gonna go watch a news program/read a newspaper/visit a news site and gather the information directly. And if you haven’t in awhile, you should too.
Anyways…that’s my P.S.A. for the day.
One more for Chris Brown…
…and on with the music.
J. Period – Tribute to Q-Tip: The [Abstract] Best
I’ve been hearing little clips from this for awhile now, but it’s finally out and I like it plenty. J.Period has compiled into this one little mixtape not only some of Q-Tip‘s most classic verses and tracks but he also includes a gangload of surprises like De La redoing Tribe’s Excursions, as well as Consequence and Kid Cudi doin their own Buggin’ Out. This is goodness right here.
(49 TRACKS! – click flick)
And since we’re at 49…how bout 1 more track to bring it to a nice round 50.
El Da Sensei (REMEMBER HIM!!???) gettin his Golden Age posse cut on with Mike Zoot and one of the most underrated, style breaking groups of all-time…Organized Konfusion (Prince Po and Pharoahe Monch).
El Da Sensei feat. Organized Konfusion & Mike Zoot – Frontline (click flick)
CAP’s at Copa tomorrow.
Marcus’ in Kaohsiung (Roof Park) Saturday.
HHHT….we got you covered.
I don’t even know where to start.
Joe ‘CRRRRRACK’ Russo is a madman behind the lens. This is fact.
We here at HHHT headquarters have always been stoked at Crack’s heavy contribution to the team (don’t hold that sentence against me), however, never as appreciative as we were Thursday(see Serious.). Once again, like Val Kilmer in Heat, he came out smilin, then proceeded to shoot the hell out of everyone….so much so that we’re breaking this goodness into a 2-parter. So, without further ado….
And as if that wasn’t enough, I’m losing my head over some of the stuff you’re gettin today.
First up, I generally try to avoid posting low-fi radio rips cause I’m a minor sound snob. However, this couldn’t be denied.
Raekwon ft. Ghostface & Method Man – Untitled (click flick for dl)
Next on deck, new Bus-a-Bus with Red Cafe and Uncle Murda. I’ve never really been a fan of Red Cafe and truthfully know Uncle Murda better for his comedic interviews than his songs, but the latter definitely surprised me with his contribution and the former comes alright as well. Busta is Busta.
And Finally…the Coup De Gras….
Q-Tip feat. Busta Rhymes, Raekwon & Lil’ Wayne – Renaissance Rap (Remix)…nuff said. [click flick for dl]
Stay tuned for Tittsworth/Crack – Part 2 tomorrow.
Have a raw Monday people.
Salut mes Amis,
The following artists need no introductions. And if you require one, I insist you go buy yourself some good ol’ fashioned COM-PACT DISQUES.
Classic bon bons for that Ol’ Skool lovin palette of yours.
Q-Tip, circa ’98 when he was forced (much like Prince, but less publicly), to change his name due to contract issues. This just recently surfaced and is what some heads like to call, DOPE!
If you heard these before then you are TRULY a 12″ master (and I ain’t talkin John Holmes – Hiyoooooooooo — yes I went there. Deal with it.) I’m not sure who originally posted this, but I got it from the good folks at Soul Sides.
Finally, a baby Shawn Carter brandishin his skills on this ol’ dusty demo tape.
And as a final bonus (and completely unrelated), something that had me chuckling pretty heavy.
