In the past 6 years, there have been few other producers/DJ’s who’ve accomplished more than Florida (or Philadelphia, depending on who you ask) native, Diplo.
From hit singles with ex-muse M.I.A. to the success of his own record label, Mad Decent all the way down to becoming the remix darling of damn near every major label and their subsidiaries, Diplo‘s ruining faces and doin it with an almost unparalleled consistency. Combining his love of Baile Funk with damn near every other genre out, like him or not, Diplo has somehow managed to carve out a place for himself that is both unique and exciting and for that, I have nothing but respect.
Now, thanks to HHHT general Marcus Aurelius, Diplo will be finding his way to Taipei for a one night extravaganza and I sincerely insist your attendance. It’s rare that Taiwan gets someone of this caliber, and the chances of a return may be slim unless we ram the place. So Taiwan, book off your Friday, shine up your shoes, and let’s do this. Weezy F‘s been beggin King Marshall to tandem with him for a few years now and up until a couple months ago, I thought Forever was gonna be the only time we heard either of them working together on any legitimate level.

Some of you might not be familiar with Exile.
Easily one of the leaders of the new class of dope producers, Exile, the one responsible for the now cult classic, Below the Heavens that he did with fellow westcoaster, and also a leader in his own right, Blu, has been pumping out dope track after dope track for quite some time now. I was first put on his ish when my homie J$Money pointed me towards his Dirty Science LP that he dropped in ’06. Featuring guest spots from Slum Village, Blu, Ghostface, Aloe Blacc and more, his first solo effort was truly something to behold. Now, 3 years and 4 collaborative records later, his skills are sharper, his clout is heavier and his tunes are just as diverse as ever. Off his sophomore Radio from earlier this year, I give you a chill track for anyone who needs a little sun during these winter months.

When I first did the original ‘Pair Up’ blog, I never meant to continue it as any sort of ongoing series within the HHHT realm. However, after seeing the rash of recent pair-ups and duets that definitely deserve their honorable mentions, I say, let’s roll with this and see if there’s another Black Star or a Ghost & Rae or a Omarion & Bow Wow in the making.

Who likes acronyyyyms? D.I.T.C.? That’s always been a favorite of mine. How bout we get a little deeper into it and break out A.G. and O.C.
Yessir. You heard me right. East Coast legends Omar Credle and Andre the Giant, better known as O.C. & A.G. have gone ahead and finally put this classic D.I.T.C. what if? scenario to bed and are slated to release THE OASIS November 24th on Nature Sounds (home of Masta Killa, the Ghost & DOOM project, and oodles more).
If this tune is any indication of how the album’ll turn out, I’m there. I swear to you, neither of them have even come close to losing a step and believe me when I say A.G. keeps getting better and better and better…(See his guest appearance on Dabrye‘s Two/Three)

As I reported a couple months ago, Stones Throw frontliners Madlib & Guilty Simpson will be teaming up to release the highly anticipated O.J. Simpson record either last quarter ’09 or first quarter ’10. Madlib, who has cemented the fact that he has one of the best batting averages for beats ever, matched with Guilty, who’s punchline onslaught can only be compared to an E. Honda attack, will undoubtedly result in something so raw it would be O.D.B. approved. Don’t believe me? Check the freebee. GOOD GAWD I love these guys.

Today’s post is for people who like Rap. Period. That’s it. You like bars? You like flows? You like lyrics that make you go ooooh? Then this is for you. If you said no to any of these questions, leave now.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to post this ish yesterday exactly one minute after it was posted! Unfortunately my code-illiterate ass just couldn’t get it to embed. Thankfully, as expected, someone Youtube‘d it and we’re back in business.
THE CYPHER
Yesterday the annual shamefest known as the BET hip-hop awards took place and well, as expected, it was a useless piece of goonery crap that only helped to ensure that those who don’t like hip-hop stay hating. That being said, this award show has provided us with 1 good thing every year and it’s those damn (Rap nerd wet dreams – ‘What if…’) Cyphers. Last years dopest cypher featured Juelz Santana, Fabolous, Ace Hood (Who surprisingly rocked it even though he can’t write a song worth his life) and Jadakiss running a mean anchor. Well, I’m happy to say that this years top cypher nearly made me wet myself. And if it doesn’t make you at least kegal a couple dozen times, then you lied about one of the above questions.
No more talkin. RAP! This one’s gonna have people arguin for a while….

It seems like the thing to do these days for rappers in their mid-30’s is to find another rapper in their mid-30’s who roughly holds the same stature and combine to make a group. Canibus and Keith Murray. Del the Funky Homosapien and Tame One. DJ Quik and Kurupt. And even though it would seem like all of these would be dope, or at very least entertaining, only the Quik and Kurupt really popped for me (and I’m a Del fan to the core). Well we have another pairing for you and this time, it might just work out. 2 people that have influenced a LOT of your favorite rappers but rarely ever get their mention, ladies and gents, I give you A & E (a.k.a. Masta Ace and Edo G.)
